We are currently looking for a Purchasing Director UK This role is based in Portchester, UK and reports directly into the Managing Director (UK) with an indirect reporting line to the Regional Purchasing Director. It is an exciting opportunity with the opportunity to travel regionally and internationally on an as required basis.

Your tasks:

  • Responsible for leading, directing and supporting the execution of the SMR UK Purchasing strategies and processes that supports OPCO and Group business. Supporting and influencing the Regional and Global Commodity strategy to deliver direct and indirect purchasing activity in order to achieve spend and saving targets.
  • Lead the purchasing team by setting clear direction and monitoring progress through regular reviews.
  • Development of the purchasing strategy which minimizes total cost to the business for both direct and indirect spend whilst achieving overall cross functional business targets.
  •  Support Regional Purchasing Director in establishing West Europe strategies for commodity and category initiatives and provide input into global purchasing strategy, ensuring local strategy complies with and compliments wider activity.
  • Leading and executing the defined purchasing strategy through the effective management of a purchasing team that can quickly adapt to changes in market conditions or business needs.
  •  Overall responsibility for ensuring purchasing staff functions and responsibilities are assigned according to skill level and growth potential to optimize their development, performance and value to the organization.
  • Lead annual purchase price reduction process to establish clear targets and year on year productivity improvements (budget planning).
  • Create and lead cost review process, against external market pricing, to ensure proactive identification of purchasing overspend and develop initiatives to reduce spend.
  • Lead the optimization and streamlining puchasing processes for the effective purchase of direct and indirect spend.
  • Support the quotation process by ensuring provision of accurate and competitive component and tooling costs for the development of the Financial Evaluation Package (FEP).
  • Support the New Product Introduction (NPI) process by ensuring effective management and sourcing of best suppliers in line with the NPI plan.
  • Support the Continuous Improvement Process (CIP) ensuring provision of expedient response to issues involving purchase parts and materials and effective management of engineering or process changes to actively encourage supplier cost‑reduction activity.
  • Prepare Annual Headcount, Expense and Purchasing Price Variance Forecast for business planning purposes, and accountable to meet the plan for all West European operations.
  • Ensure monthly reports to track and forecast Purchasing performance to budget are prepared, reviewed and updated, clear direction given and actions to ensure targets are met.
  • Effective presentation of information to leadership through established formats and procedures as appropriate.
  • Support the Quality Team to ensure compliance with all relevant statutory and legal obligations e.g. IATF16949:2016, EOLV.

 

Your profile:

  • Bachelor's degree from accredited college or university. Business master's degree preferred.
  • Strong commercial background with a minimum of 10 years within a manufacturing and/or engineering industry. Five years experience in a purchasing management role with responsibility for strategic development.
  • Prior experience of working in purchasing and/or logistics within the automotive industry preferred.
  • Understanding of a complex product range with multiple manufacturing techniques and a global supply chain.
  • Have an understanding of technical engineering, along with a strong manufacturing and quality knowledge. Including, ability to read, analyse, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Good understanding of legal regulations and contract management.
  • Good understanding of Profit and Loss (P&L) and balance sheet information.
  • Experience in best cost country sourcing.
