PhD Student (m/w/d) – Automated image quality optimization of digital rearview mirrors

Your tasks:

  • Review and consideration of legal standards (e.g. UN ECE R46) as the baseline for the development and evaluation of test mehtods for image quality (IQ)
  • Research state-of-the-art IQ validation methods (e.g. IEEE P2020)
  • Definition of KPIs (e.g. white balance, exposure, dynamic range) to judge the image quality of digital rearview mirrors
  • Collection and categorization of real-world scenarios (e.g. tunnel entrance, snow)
  • Reproduction of real-world test drive scenarios in the lab and definition of KPIs to evaluate the image quality
  • Assessment of lab equipment and concept proposal for test automation
  • Achieve full IQ test automation including respective documentation
  • Implement strategy to optimize the image quality automatically (e.g. using deep learning)

Your profile:

  • Excellent master degree in computer science, physics, optics, electrical engineering, or related disciplines
  • Strong understanding of imaging and image signal processing
  • Experience with CMOS image sensor and digital imaging pipeline and algorithm (e.g. AE, AWB, LTM)
  • Good programming skills (e.g. Matlab, Python, C/C++)
  • Practical experience with test automation in a laboratory environment
  • Very good English language communication skills, both written and verbal
