Project Engineer

40 hours | Marysville

Coordinate all engineering activities involved in the application of design and technical development for new model products through the use of engineering disciplines and controls including design, testing, prototype and sample development, performance specification, customer support and cross‑functional liaison.

Your tasks:

Plan, execute and control the technical aspects of a program to produce a product design compatible with customer requirements and market specifications within program costs and schedule requirements.

Provide technical interface and liaison with the customer.

Establish design criteria compatible with the customer's performance and feature requirements.

Develop, implement and review product design criteria.

Provide regular and timely program status updates to the customer, management and cross‑functional disciplines.

Maintain a complete and appropriate historical record of the technical aspects of the program including customer signoffs at key milestone events.

Work closely with the Designer to provide detailed design drawings and CAD data files for the product.

Assure the orderly and complete transition of the program from development to production.

Support all CIP activities as required.

Provide technical support and direction to suppliers as appropriate.

Primary responsibilities for development and maintenance of program books, program plan, DFMEA, DVP&R, design for manufacturing studies, component design specifications and product sign‑off sheets.

Secondary/support responsibilities for open issues, product pricing, manufacturing capital/investment planning, continuous improvement process and customer launch.

Maintain a current product knowledge and education level commensurate with this position.

Know and understand the marketplace (competitors) through benchmarking activities and competitive teardowns.

Maintain a professional demeanor and appearance.

Actively participate and support the company's efforts in safety programs, community relations, quality initiatives, etc.

Contribute to and Follow all applicable SDS Standards including – SDS Handbook, SDS QSP, SMR Standards, DWI’s, Design Guidelines, Forms, and Resins.

Your profile:

Bachelor's Degree from four year college or university in Engineering or related field; or 8‑10 years automotive related work experience or mirror experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Strong familiarity and aptitude with mechanical and/or electromechanical devices/mechanisms produced in a high volume manufacturing environment.

Understanding of common materials utilized on mirror/lighting components and how they interact when assembled.

Interpersonal skills necessary to support and work with other professions including Designers, Detail Draftsmen, CAD Designers and others as required.

Minimum of one completed Tier 1 supplier program, concept through launch.

Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations.

Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.

Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.

Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts.

Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory and factor analysis.

Understanding of GD&T and how it applies to mirrors and/or lighting components and assemblies.

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
